About Magguy Sarragne
The print is a portrait of the French singer and showgirl Magguy Sarragne, who also modeled for Dior, and we are told, mixed with high society and the fashion elite in Paris during the 50s, 60s and 70s. Magguy Sarragne was painted by the famous artist Rene Gruau (1909-2004) - better known as THE fashion illustrator of haute couture of the 20th century - in a picture known as 'A Portrait of Maggy Sarrange'. We have no idea if the spelling of her name on this vintage poster is an error, or if it is the original spelling of her name which was perhaps simplified for stage and screen at a later date? Maggy Sarragne (as referred to by IMBD) was born in France in 1923 and was known for the following films:

- Fernandel the Dressmaker (1956)

- The Sicilians (1963)

- Scandale aux Champs-Elysees (1949)

She died in 2014, and these posters were only discovered when Magguy's personal estate was cleared. It is likely that the posters were used to promote one of her shows at a Paris venue.

About the artist, Charles Killer (1902-1992)
Kiffer is famous for his sketches of actors and performers many of which became posters. One of the most famous posters is a portrait of Maurice Chevalier which he produced for his own pleasure - Chevalier must have liked Kiffers artistic style, as he then entrusted him to produce posters for his shows in 1926 and 1927 - and 13 more posters until 1963.
From 1918 Kiffer attended the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. He illustrated many of the publicity posters for stars like George Guetary (1933), Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf (1936) and Bridgette Bardot. During the second World War he was engaged by the French airforce to paint camouflage for the aircraft.
After the war he resumed his work of drawing the stars and theatre scenes from Paris - including many decorations for the Casino de Paris. He continued to live in Paris until his death in 1992.
