Kandya Carl Jacobs Jason Chair - 0709f

Sold Out
Iconic 'Jason chair' designed by Carl Jacobs and manufactured by Kandya in the 1950s.
– Excellent restored condition
The lightweight, stacking chair has gently tapering splayed wooden legs that are typical of Danish design of the period.
The seat and back of the chair are folded from a single sheet of flexible, teak veneered plywood that wraps around the chair and joins below the seat with a jigsaw puzzle type connection. This piece features the in demand tapered wooden legs.
At this time in America the Eames’ and Eero Saarinen were experimenting with molding single-piece chair seats and backs, but far simpler technology was required to bend plywood to achieve the same effect, as with this chair. Principally designed for domestic use, the ‘Jason’ chair was in continuous production for almost twenty years. In 1952 three hundred were installed in the South Bank Restaurant on the site of the Festival of Britain.
The chair is in excellent restored condition there may be some minor marks as to be expected for its age. Please take a look at the photographs for more detail.
