Pair of Kandya Carl Jacobs Jason Chairs - 0610a
Sold Out
A stunning pair of fully restored 'Jason chairs' designed by Carl Jacobs and manufactured by Kandya in the 1950s.
– Excellent restored condition
These lightweight stacking chairs feature gently tapered splayed wooden legs - typical of Danish design of the period.
The seats and backs of the chairs are folded from a single sheet of flexible, beech veneered plywood. It wraps around the chairs and joins below the seat with a jigsaw puzzle type connection. This particular model of Jason chair features the much sought after solid beech wooden legs.
At the time of their design in America, Eames and Eero Saarinen were experimenting with moulding single-piece chair seats and backs. Principally designed for domestic use, the ‘Jason’ chair was in continuous production for almost twenty years. In 1952 three hundred were installed in the South Bank Restaurant on the site of the ‘Festival of Britain’.
These chairs are in excellent restored condition. They have been fully stripped back and refinished, and the backs have been professionally repainted. There may be some minor marks as to be expected for their age. Please take a look at the photographs for more detail.
