Pair of 1970s 80s Chrome & Cane Cantilever Dining Chairs 0310h
Tax included
A wonderfully decorative pair of vintage dining chairs dating from the 1970s/80s, combining warm-toned hardwood, natural cane and tubular chrome in a particularly striking cantilever design.
The chairs are defined by their unusual backrests, each formed from a softly rounded timber frame inset with three individual oval cane panels. This distinctive detail gives them a particularly sculptural quality and sets them apart from the more familiar cane and chrome cantilever chairs of the period.
The seats are also traditionally caned, set within substantial shaped timber frames with gently rounded front edges. The warm honey tones of the wood work beautifully against the lighter natural cane and polished chrome, creating a lovely balance of texture and materials.
Each chair is supported by a continuous tubular chrome frame, sweeping beneath the seat before curving down and around to form the characteristic cantilever base. The simplicity of the construction gives the chairs a light, elegant profile, with an almost floating appearance when viewed from the side.
The design reflects the enduring influence of Modernist tubular furniture during the 1970s and 80s, while the use of natural cane and richly toned timber gives these examples a warmer and more decorative character.
An unusual and highly decorative pair, ideal as dining chairs but equally appealing as occasional seating, bedroom chairs or as part of an eclectic collection around a dining table.
Circa 1970s/80s.
Carefully restored in our workshop and presented in excellent vintage condition. The timber retains a lovely mellow finish, with just a few minor polished-in marks and gentle signs of age remaining, all of which contribute to the chairs’ authentic character. The original cane presents particularly well, while the chrome frames retain some light age-related wear consistent with their age and use. Please take a close look through all photographs, as these form an important part of the description.
