A wonderfully decorative vintage oak bureau bookcase, believed to date from the 1940s, combining beautifully warm, golden oak with striking sunburst leaded-glass doors and charming carved detailing.

The upper bookcase features a pair of glazed doors with a particularly attractive geometric sunburst design, incorporating textured glass panels which give the piece a lovely Art Deco influence. Inside, adjustable shelves provide useful space for displaying books, ceramics and treasured objects.

Below, the fall-front bureau opens to reveal a charming fitted writing interior, complete with an arrangement of pigeonholes, a small central drawer and an aged brown writing surface. The lower section offers further practical storage, with a generously sized drawer above a double-door cupboard with an internal shelf.

Particularly lovely are the carved floral details, shaped cupboard doors and substantial turned feet, which give the piece a distinctive Jacobean Revival character. The combination of traditional styling and geometric glazing makes this a wonderfully unusual and decorative piece.

The oak has developed a beautiful warm, mellow colour, with attractive grain and subtle variations in tone throughout. The bureau also retains its original manufacturer's label for H. A. Collins, Cabinet and Furniture Manufacturer, 38 Forton Road, Gosport, a lovely detail which adds to its history and character.

– Lovely Vintage Condition

Presented in lovely vintage condition, with marks, scuffs, variations in colour and gentle signs of age and previous use throughout, all part of its authentic vintage charm. The fitted writing interior retains its aged appearance, including wear and marks to the writing surface, while the cupboards and drawers provide plenty of useful storage.

Please take a close look through all photographs, as these form an important part of the description and show the condition and character of the piece in greater detail.
At just 75 cm wide, this charming bureau bookcase has wonderfully compact proportions, making it particularly well suited to smaller spaces. Both decorative and practical, it would make a fabulous addition to a living room, study, bedroom or cosy corner of the home, offering a lovely combination of display space, a traditional writing desk and useful concealed storage.
