Vintage Colindale Library Trolley Kitchen Island 2310h
Tax included
A wonderfully characterful vintage industrial kitchen island, originally a working trolley at the former British Library Newspaper Library in Colindale, north London. Sympathetically restored and repurposed in our workshop, this fabulous piece combines a fascinating history with a practical new purpose.
The substantial original beech end frames have developed a lovely warm, mellow colour, with beautifully worn surfaces and an abundance of authentic vintage character. Both ends retain their original carrying handles and aged solid brass corner protectors, while the distinctive COLINDALE lettering provides a wonderful reminder of the trolley's former life.
A new worktop and open shelving have been carefully crafted from reclaimed iroko, a beautifully rich and durable hardwood that complements the aged beech perfectly. The original heavy-duty industrial castors and worn cream-painted metal base complete its distinctive utilitarian appearance.
– Beautifully Restored & Repurposed –
Carefully restored in our workshop and presented in lovely vintage condition, with the marks, scuffs, scratches and signs of wear you would expect from a genuine former working library trolley. These have been sympathetically preserved as part of its history and character. Please take a close look through all photographs, as these form an important part of the description.
Incredibly versatile, this fabulous piece would make a wonderful freestanding kitchen island, offering generous preparation space and useful open storage. Equally suited as a serving trolley, drinks station or distinctive retail display, it's a truly individual piece of vintage furniture, ready for its next chapter.

Our restoration process
Preparation
We carefully assess every piece, identifying any damage, repairs or replacement parts it may need. Drawers may need new runners, handles can be missing or damaged, and joints may require repair or reinforcement. We look beyond the surface to uncover hidden defects, ensuring each piece is restored to work as it was originally intended.
Restoration
With over 20 years of experience, we know that the right restoration techniques can make all the difference. It’s a delicate process that takes patience, skill and attention to detail — one we’ve taken the time to perfect. Each piece is carefully and sensitively restored, preserving its original character and charm while giving it a new lease of life.
Finishing
Finally, we add the finishing touches — whether that’s painting, oiling or sealing, fitting new handles, hinges or catches, or simply giving the piece a final clean and polish. We make sure every piece is ready for modern living, giving it a new lease of life and a renewed sense of purpose, ready to be loved for generations to come.
Before and after
Each piece is carefully and sympathetically restored to preserve the character, charm and beautiful details that make it unique. The result is a truly individual piece of furniture, thoughtfully restored for
modern living and ready to bring warmth, personality and timeless style to your home for years to come.
