A beautifully proportioned British mid-century coffee table, dating from the 1950s and featuring a wonderfully figured walnut veneered top.
The long rectangular top has an especially attractive grain, with warm variations of honey, amber and deeper walnut tones running across the surface. Gently rounded corners and a subtly shaped edge soften the otherwise clean, understated form.
The table stands on an elegant under-frame with four slender tapering legs. Particularly lovely are the fine diagonal braces beneath the top and shaped stretchers between the legs, giving the base a light, architectural quality while adding interest to the table's simple silhouette.
The restrained design is typical of good British post-war furniture, with similarities to pieces produced by Gordon Russell and other leading British manufacturers during the period. There are no surviving maker's marks or labels, however, so we have left the table unattributed.
At just 40cm deep, it has particularly useful proportions: long enough to work comfortably in front of a sofa while remaining relatively narrow and visually light. A very attractive and practical piece of 1950s British design.
The table is in good vintage condition, retaining the gentle variations and signs of use expected from a piece of this age, please take a look at the photographs for more detail.

Our restoration process
Preparation
We carefully assess every piece, identifying any damage, repairs or replacement parts it may need. Drawers may need new runners, handles can be missing or damaged, and joints may require repair or reinforcement. We look beyond the surface to uncover hidden defects, ensuring each piece is restored to work as it was originally intended.
Restoration
With over 20 years of experience, we know that the right restoration techniques can make all the difference. It’s a delicate process that takes patience, skill and attention to detail — one we’ve taken the time to perfect. Each piece is carefully and sensitively restored, preserving its original character and charm while giving it a new lease of life.
Finishing
Finally, we add the finishing touches — whether that’s painting, oiling or sealing, fitting new handles, hinges or catches, or simply giving the piece a final clean and polish. We make sure every piece is ready for modern living, giving it a new lease of life and a renewed sense of purpose, ready to be loved for generations to come.
Before and after
Each piece is carefully and sympathetically restored to preserve the character, charm and beautiful details that make it unique. The result is a truly individual piece of furniture, thoughtfully restored for
