A beautiful solid oak antique school cupboard was originally handcrafted by the renowned North of England School Furnishing Company Ltd, back in the early 20th century (1900-1930s). (read more about the company at the bottom of this listing)

Featuring six spacious shelves (fixed), this substantial cupboard would make a great kitchen larder or pantry, it would also work well as a linen cupboard or for general storage. Packed full of original character and charm, the piece would make the perfect addition to a period or country inspired interior.

Constructed from solid oak (carcass and doors) and pine (shelves), the cupboard has developed a beautifully rich patina, enhanced by decades of honest use. Whether used to store classroom materials, stationery or other supplies, the thoughtful design has made it every bit as practical today as when it was first made.

Restoration Work
New roller catches have been fitted to ensure the doors open and close smoothly and securely. The piece has been carefully cleaned and waxed, preserving its original patina and enhancing the character and beauty of the oak.

Condition

About the North of England School Furnishing Company Ltd
The North of England School Furnishing Company began in 1876 with the Religious Tract Society, founded at the suggestion of John Pease of East Mount. Its original aim was to spread religious literature, but it soon expanded into producing school books and, eventually, school furniture.

The company grew into a major manufacturer, with large works on East Mount Road and Kinross Street. Sadly, in January 1889, much of the site was badly damaged by fire.
