A highly sought after, vintage, model 401 Butterfly Chair.
– Excellent restored condition
Designed in 1958 the 401 Butterfly chair was known as the ‘Preformed Chair’ at the time as it was made from moulded plywood rather than the solid wood Ercol are renowned for. This chair stands out as it was a landmark in the development of furniture making.
Steam bent beech bars connect the seat pad and the seat back both of which are curved, moulded plywood which have been veneered in the elm associated with Ercol. The underframe is consistent with the rest of the Windsor range and is made from beech.
Ercol made this chair between 1958 and 1963.
As with all Ercol furniture the build quality and materials used are second to none.
The chair is in excellent original condition there may be some minor marks as to be expected for its age. Please take a look at the photographs for more detail.
