An exceptional bank of original 1930s pitch pine school storage compartments, salvaged from the former Blackfen School for Girls. Originally built into the fabric of the school, this remarkable piece has been carefully removed, professionally restored and thoughtfully repurposed, preserving both its rich history and distinctive character.

Constructed from solid pitch pine, the cabinet features twenty individual storage compartments arranged in two rows, each retaining its original lift-up door, numbered Bakelite label and solid brass knob. Designed to provide practical, organised storage for generations of pupils, the cabinet is a wonderful example of early twentieth-century institutional craftsmanship, where durability and functionality were paramount.

Measuring an impressive 274cm in length, its long, low proportions make it an incredibly versatile piece for contemporary interiors. The beautifully restored pitch pine displays a deep, warm patina, with the natural grain and subtle signs of age telling the story of its decades of service. The original numbered Bakelite labels and solid brass knobs remain throughout, adding authenticity and celebrating the cabinet’s educational heritage.

Having originally been built into the walls of Blackfen School for Girls, this is far more than a piece of vintage furniture—it is a genuine architectural salvage item with documented provenance. Today, it lends itself perfectly to life as a statement sideboard, media cabinet, hallway console, retail display or kitchen storage, combining exceptional practicality with a unique sense of history.

Presented in excellent restored condition, the cabinet retains the honest character expected of a piece of this age while being ready for everyday use. We have added a new plywood back to the piece and ensured all doors open and close as they should. Its clean architectural lines, outstanding craftsmanship and remarkable provenance make it an increasingly rare find, offering a unique opportunity to own an authentic piece of British educational history.

Drawers may need new runners, handles can be missing or damaged, and joints may require repair or reinforcement. We look beyond the surface to uncover hidden defects, ensuring each piece is restored to work as it was originally intended.
