About Renee Marciel
The Fashion Designer Renee Marciel trained at the Beau Arts School in Lyon, but after the war in 1946, she decided to relocate to the US. Renee taught herself fashion cutting, draping and fitting and started selling her designs in the Fashion District in New York. Renee then decided to move to the flamboyant area of Miami and is said to have sketched most of her designs from her swimming pool! Upon arrival in Miami she purchased several yards of fabric and began work on her first small collection of designs and eventually her work was noticed and stocked by Saks 5th Avenue. Renee Marciel ended up being an incredibly successful force in fashion and one of the most unconventional designers of the 1950s Miami scene. Renee was an eccentric character who despised pastels and ignored trends. Her collections become known for bright colour palettes of white, black, orange, blue and green.
