Signed by the artist Patricia Davies, there’s something wonderfully warm and engaging about the piece, from the sitter’s expression to the rich colours and lively, expressive brushwork.

Burnt oranges, ochres and earthy browns sit beautifully alongside vibrant turquoise and blue, creating a warm and distinctive palette. The textured paint and loosely worked, almost abstract background give the portrait a relaxed mid-century feel while keeping all the attention on the young sitter.

Painted in oil on board and presented in a period linen frame, the painting is believed to date from the 1960s–70s.
