The generously curved seat and broad elliptical backrest are joined by a single sweeping plywood support, giving the chair a particularly attractive profile when viewed from the side and rear.

The exposed laminated edges are an especially pleasing detail, emphasising the construction of the moulded plywood seat and back. Four splayed tubular steel legs provide a strong graphic contrast to the warm golden tone of the timber.

The RÄÄ is a relatively uncommon IKEA design from the period and is increasingly recognised as an interesting example of the company's more design-led furniture of the 1990s. Contemporary secondary-market references consistently attribute the model to Nicholai Wiig Hansen, including specialist auction examples.

The chair is in excellent restored vintage condition, with some polished in marks, as to be expected for its age, these have been retained as part of its character and are shown in the photographs.

Dimensions
Overall height: 74cm
Overall width: 53cm
Overall depth: 61cm
Seat height: 42cm
Seat depth: 45cm

Designer: Nicholai Wiig Hansen
Manufacturer: IKEA
Model: RÄÄ
Period: 1990s
Materials: Moulded laminated plywood and painted tubular metal

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0228/1503/files/vintage_ikea_RAA_chair_nicholai_wiig_hansen.3.jpg?v=1791045927
